City Council Public Hearing Draft

This is it: we’re entering the final stage of the adoption process for the Bike Walk Central Corridor Action Plan! The City Council public hearing is slated for April 21, 2010 at 5:30pm (serendipitously close to Earth Day, we think). If you have thoughts to share on the plan, this is the time to make them known. Official testimony may be submitted in writing prior to the hearing to Emily Goodman, via email or snail mail (Suite 1400, 25 W 4th St, St Paul, MN 55102). You can also testify in person at the hearing at City Council Chambers in City Hall. Chatter on this blog is welcome, but just know official testimony has to be submitted through those more official avenues. So, without further adieu, here’s the public hearing draft for your consideration.

Alright, after a summer spent hard at work editing and re-formatting the Bike Walk Central Corridor Action Plan in the oppressive heat, we are breathing in the cool damp air of the fall and present to you the latest version of the plan. This draft is intended to allow for informal public comment before the City Council public hearing draft is released in late November. Thanks so much for everyone’s thoughtful comments. The consultants have incorporated them into a new draft which staff is currently reviewing and editing. We should know soon what sort of timeline we’re looking at to begin the adoption process for the plan. Once we do, we’ll be sure to let you know!

First of all, thanks to everyone who showed up to the Open House last night. We saw a lot of old faces, a lot of new faces, and heard a lot of different thoughts about the plan. One of the thoughts that popped up was about bikes lanes on University Avenue, or the lack thereof. We made a little FAQ sheet to help address some of those questions. But, let us just say that while there is no space with the planned engineering for dedicated bike lanes, bikers are allowed to use any road in Minnesota, except where restricted.

Here it is, what you’ve been waiting for, the Draft Bike Walk Central Corridor Action Plan! We’re looking for you thoughts and comments, so please take a look, and write a comment to this post. If you’re feeling ambitious, you can read the entire document, or just the summary and key maps. It’s up to you! The important thing is you tell us what you think, and do it by February 27th. Bear in mind that it’s very drafty at this point. We’re mostly looking for comments on the routes and general policies, as opposed to grammar and such.
